In the game against Mumford, Mexia trailed after the first period of play, 15-10, but came back in the second as defense played a big part, to take the lead at halftime, 19-17. The Blackcats held Mumford to just two points in the second period.
Mexia came out firing in the third, with Chris Mathews leading the charge with eight of the Blackcats 18 points in the period and extending their two-point lead to eight at 37-29.
Mexia’s defense shut down Mumford in the fourth, allowing just eight points as the Blackcats went on to win by 12.
