Last night, we saw a movie about the Apostle Paul. It was entitled, “Paul, The Apostle of Christ”. And in this movie, as Paul faces his last imprisonment in Rome, he is able to win a Roman commander to faith in Christ. Actually, Luke, who was a doctor and of Greek upbringing, was with Paul, that is, he was allowed to visit Paul on many occasions so he could capture Paul’s memoirs. If you are a student of the Bible, you will recall that Luke accompanied Paul on many of his missionary trips, writing down the events in Paul’s life that we now have recorded in the Book of Acts as well as some of Paul’s writings, such as the Colossian letter and the letter we know as Second Timothy. In fact, much of the account of the spread of the Gospel to the Gentile world was penned by Dr. Luke in the Book of Acts. Now in the movie, the Roman commander’s daughter was dying, but due to the urging of the commander’s wife, he called for Dr. Luke and Luke was able to save his daughter’s life. This event began to open the heart of this commander towards faith in Jesus Christ.
