Republicans want to arm more school employees; few districts opting in

Nearly a decade ago, Texas lawmakers created the school marshal program, a way for educators to carry weapons inside schools. It was the state’s rapid-fire legislative response to an unthinkable national horror 2,000 miles away when 20 first graders and six adults were shot and killed in a Sandy Hook, Connecticut, classroom just before Christmas 2012.

Rural residents left with aftermath of criminal intrusion

The sense of security and safety felt by many rural residents of Leon County was shattered last month after the escape of and subsequent search for convicted murderer Gonzalo Lopez in the Centerville area. When five bodies were discovered – suspected to have been slain by Lopez – Thursday, June 2, in their weekend house less than a mile from Centerville off State Highway 7, the desecration of serenity was complete.

This week at Mexia LTC we started off with Bible Study on Monday morning. Residents played bingo on Monday afternoon. Residents enjoyed Bible Group with Bob Kersten on Tuesday morning. Residents enjoyed snow cones on Tuesday afternoon.
