LARRY JOE COLVIN

OLVIN

Larry Joe Colvin, 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, April 7, 2025. Waiting to greet him were his loving parents, his big brother, John, with golf clubs in hand and his beloved mother-in-law, Delle, holding a big plate of chicken fried steak.

Larry was born on Nov. 29, 1947, to John and Geraldine Barker Colvin in Galveston. Larry grew up working on his family farm, causing mischief with his four brothers — John, Keith, Gary and Dean — and his sister, Joann, and playing sports. He graduated from DeKalb High School in DeKalb, where he excelled as a baseball player. He later attended East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, on a baseball scholarship.

Larry spent his adult years in the Dallas and San Antonio areas working as an ironworker and later, owned a construction business with his brother, Keith.

He married the love of his life and best friend, Kathy Delle Erskine, in 1980. Together they built a life full of love, laughter and adventures — some more successful than others, but always fun.

Larry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1985, but he never let his health condition limit him from living his life to the fullest. Larry enjoyed having fun, traveling with Kathy, hanging out with his children and grandchildren, joining his siblings and their families for family reunions or just a simple evening of games with friends. Following his retirement in 2000, Larry moved to East Texas to join Kathy, where he fished and golfed daily at Lake Cherokee until their move to Central Texas where he lived out his remaining years.

Larry’s parents and brother, John Colvin, preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memories and pass on his stories are his wife Kathy and loyal dog companion Duncan, his beloved daughter Darla Berg, and her husband, Chuc); and his son and favorite fishing partner, Chad; grandchildren Maeghan Cholakis and her husband, Greg, and Garrett Berg; and his great-grandson, Johnny Cholakis.

Larry’s surviving siblings are Keith Colvin, and his wife, Barbara, Gary Cooper and his wife, Cheryl, Dean Cooper and his wife, Dianne, and Joann Cooper- Meadows. He is also survived by sister-in-law Beth Colvin, brother-in-law Blake Erskine and Toni, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and life celebration will be held for Larry Colvin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at First United Methodist Church in Tehuacana.
