BESSIE JOLENE NELSON

Bessie Jolene Nelson was born March 11, 1947, to Jessie and Bessie Nelson, the youngest of three siblings.

She dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized in 1964 at the age of 17.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at Jones Funeral Services Chapel. Interment followed at Forest Glade Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held prior to the service, from noon to 2 p.m.

Jolene married Ray Hill on Dec. 29, 1964, and they had four children: Michael, Sheila, Mark and Randy. Mark died in an accident on Jan. 25, 1985, at the age of 10. Jolene’s husband Ray preceded her in death on July 22, 2018.

Jolene was a pleasant person who could put a smile on any face with her quiet humor. She loved her family and was a happy person even in hard times. She enjoyed her dogs, especially the pugs.

She lived at Skilled Care of Mexia for the last 2 ½ years of her life and made many friends among the staff and residents. Jolene loved telling them about the earthly Paradise that she looked forward to.

She is survived by her brother, Jesse Nelson of Kerrville; sister, Rose (Sammie) Jones of Mexia; sons, Michael Hill of Mexia and Randy Hill of Gun Barrel City; daughter Sheila Melendez of Mexia; three grandchildren, Amber Powell of Mexia, and Mandy and Mark Hill of Gun Barrel City; and former daughter-in-law, Lisa Warren, with whom she remained very close.

Serving as pallbearers were Randy Hill, Mark Hill, Nicholas Wilson, Jody Holder, T.J. Decker, John Ethridge, Dylan Wisdom and Travis Samford.
