DANNY JAMES BROOKS

Danny Brooks, 64, of Mexia, passed away on Feb. 22, 2021, in Mexia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Pairie Grove Baptist Church, with Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery. Family visitation was to be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Danny was born to Paul Wayne and Jeti “Lucille” Costlow Brooks on July 17, 1956, in Hubbard. He went to school and graduated from Hubbard High School in 1975. After high school, he received his degree in journalism.

He worked for Mexia State School for many years before he began working as a caregiver for the group homes. He met the love of his life, Deborah Harrell Brooks, in 1993 and they married Sept. 12, 2000. That day his entire life changed when he became a husband, daddy and grandpoppy all in the same day.

Anyone that met him right away knew he had a sense of humor and loved his music. This music collection has been compared to that of a music store. His knowledge of music, artist and ecleptism was extravagant. He loved the Lord and has been prepared to go to his heavenly home for many years to rejoin his love.

Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Harrell Brooks; parents, Paul and Lucille Brooks; son-in-law, Michael Samples; granddaughter Stephanie Brooks; brother Larry Brooks and sister, Paula Durham. He is survived by his children, Laura Brooks Williams and husband Mike, Kimberly Baker and husband Brian, and Kristi Rhodes Batten; grandchildren Kaitlyn Samples, Hannah Samples, Madison Harrell, Caleb Rhodes, Noah Baker, Savannah Rhodes, Bentley Harrell-Christian and Oaklyn Lummus; bonus grandchildren, Brittney McCloskey and Nylah Swayne; sister Glenda Selman and husband Billy; best friends for life, Kenneth Terri Young; brother-in-law Curtis Durham; as well as many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.

Serving as pallbearers are Chris Brooks, Wesley Brooks, Johnny Lee Cowger, Billy Selman, Ty Williams, Trent Williams, Brian Baker, Curtis Durham, Ace Eberle, Austin Eberle and Randal Eberle.
