Dr. Jermany Jamal Henry

Dr. Jermany Jamal Henry, 40, of Wortham, passed away and entered his Heavenly home on May 20, 2023, in Wortham. Services were held at noon Thursday, May 25, at First Baptist Church of Wortham, with Eulogist, Pastor Nathaniel Bedford of Lonestar Baptist Church, and the Rev. Wayne Williams, officiating. Interment followed at Wortham Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Wortham.

Dr. Henry was born on Oct. 6, 1982, in Wortham to Lanny and Sharon Elaine Busby Henry. Upon graduating from high school, Jamal earned an Associate’s Degree for Tyler Junior College in Tyler, a Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor University in Waco, and two Master’s Degrees from G.W. Truett Theological Seminary in Waco, and then earned his Doctorate Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.

He married Veronica Garzoria on Oct. 1, 2016, in Groesbeck, and his daughter was born on Oct. 11, 2017. He was formerly employed at Teague ISD and Waco ISD, and was currently a teacher’s aide at Groesbeck ISD. Jamal was also the pastor of Full Faith Primitive Baptist Church in Wortham and Pastor of Union Primitive Baptist Church in Teague, as well as Rocky Branch Primitive Baptist Church in Teague.

Jamal was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Raymundo Garzoria; paternal grandparents, Rosevelt Black and Willie Mae Thomas; maternal grandparents, David and Leola Busby; as well as a host of aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica G. Henry of Wortham; daughter, Aubree Elaine Henry of Wortham; mother, Sharon Elaine and husband Gene Rhodes of Groesbeck; father, Lanny Henry and wife Mary Henry of Mexia; sister, Pamela Elaine Henry of Mexia; niece, Jondalyn Kiana Mc-Dowell of Mexia; nephew, Jacorey Demond Leonard of Mexia; brother-in-law, Raymundo Garzoria Jr. and wife Paola of Evant; brother- in-law, Rogelio Garzoria and wife Samantha of Baytown; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Olivares and husband Phillip of Tyler; sister-inlaw, Yolanda Ramos and husband Mateo of Midland; mother-in-law, Yolanda Garzoria of Wortham; sisters, Candice of San Antonio, Courtney of Groesbeck, Erica of Groesbeck and Tracy of Dallas; brothers, Byron of Wortham and Stacy of Dallas; uncles and aunts, Kenneth Busby, Michael Busby, Melinda Morgan, Zoleta Kirven, Shirley Freeman, Marie Lockhart, Sandra Carter and Mary Piggie; special friends, Vickie and Leslie Brooks, Brandon Chambers, Dr. Jeffery Lane, and Dr. Faith Lane; as well as a host of aunts, uncles and extended family.

Serving as pallbearers were JaCorey Leonard, Brandon Chambers, Michael Busby, Tyrone Freeman, Leslie Brooks Sr., Kenneth Freeman and Robert Busby. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Jeffrey Lang, Arthur Busby, Billy Mack, Cedric Busby, Eric Brooks and Leslie Brooks Jr.
