James King

James King was born Feb. 14, 1957, in Ellis County, to the parentage of J.B. King Sr. and Prince Ella King. He was raised by his grandparents, Clifton and Isabella Becks. He graduated from Leon High School in Jewett. He joined the United States Army in 1977 and received an honorable discharge in 1979.

James was a devoted father, grandfather, loving and faithful husband. He was blessed with a daughter, Ja’mesha King and granddaughter, Ja’Kyriah King. He married Vikki King on Oct. 11, 2008. Although no children were born to this union, James and Vikki shared two fur babies, Tobi Dan and Lola Jane. James was fortunate to have two bonus sons, Darion and Varian Walton; bonus daughter, Jacquala Wilson; and bonus granddaughter, Rayvinn Harris.

James was an active member of the Union Memorial United Methodist Church He served as a lay speaker and also served on many church committees throughout his years as a member. Before joining Union Memorial, he was a member of South Salem Baptist Church in Jewett, where he served as a deacon.

James King departed this life on June 28, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. King Sr.; mother, Prince Ella King; brothers, Robert King and J.B. King Jr.; sisters, Joyce King, Georgia King and Beverly Don (King) Beaver; and grandparents, Clifton and Isabell Becks.

James leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Vikki King; daughter, Ja’mesha King; granddaughter, Ja’Kyriah King; bonus sons, Darion Walton and Varion Walton; bonus daughter, Jacquala Wilson; and bonus granddaughter, Rayvinn Harris; motherin- law, Elouise Carroll; sisters- in-law, Joyce (Gary) Gipson, Elaine (Anthony) Sutton and Vernessa (Jarvis) Granderson; special great-nephew, Kasen Dwain Greer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Service held on Saturday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at Union Memorial United Methodist Church. Service and arrangements entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home of Mexia.
