James William Gore

James William (J.W.) Gore, 91 of Mexia, passed away on June 11, 2023, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 16, Glad Tidings Church in Mexia with Brother Paul Moore officiating. Interment followed at Cotton Gin Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Services.

J.W. was born on Nov. 4, 1931, in Teague, to Hughie and Audrey Jones Gore. After graduating high school, he served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He and Marjorie married on May 24, 1957. He worked at the cotton mill and then retired as a painter from the Mexia State School.

Family was very important to Mr. Gore. He enjoyed gardening and was always eager to share the fruits of the crops with family, church friends and everyone else. n his retired years, he had his daily “routes” that he would go on, visiting with family and friends. J.W. attended for many years the First Assembly of God in Mexia, even taking on the role of “church greeter.” He was a great friend and listener.

Mr. Gore was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; parents, Hughie and Audrey Gore; sons, Jim Bo Gore and Bobby Gore; brothers, Baby Chris, Alford Gore and Terry Gore; and sisters, Avis Willis, Oujie Zemple, Madie Watson, Teta Dvorak and Linda Mc-Coslin.

Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Orr of Robinson; son, Benny Gore and wife Deborah of Mexia; grandchildren, Michelle McManus, Justin Gore, Sean Gore, Angela Guzman and Tasha Nelius; brother, Gene Gore and wife Linda of Spring; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
