Mary Ann Shamblin

Mary Shamblin, 88, of Point Enterprise, passed away on Sept. 8, 2019, at her residence. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. at Point Enterprise Cemetery, with Ray Jones officiating.

Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening, 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are Robert Murphey, John Murphey, Cory Shamblin, Bruce Tucker, James Tucker, Danny Beldin and Brandon Allen. Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandsons.

Mrs. Shamblin was born on Dec. 14, 1930, in Mexia, to Harmon and Viva Kennedy Taylor. She was a retired supervisor from the Mexia State Supported Living Center. “Grandma,” as she was affectionately known, loved her family, and loved cooking for and hosting the huge gatherings and holiday celebrations. She was an avid seamstress and excellent at crocheting, enjoyed canning the produce from the family garden, and she loved mowing the lawn.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Pookie” Shamblin; daughter Doris Dale Shamblin; parents Harmon and Viva Taylor; and siblings Eunice Lane, J.W. Taylor and Genia Campbell.

She is survived by her children, James David Shamblin (Barbara), of Mexia, Darlene Archer (Jerry), of Mexia, Donna Kay Shamblin, of Mexia, and Cheryl Dee Tucker (David), of Mexia; grandchildren Robert Murphey (Laurie), John Murphey (Angelle), Megan Beldin (Danny), Jami Archer, Keri Allen (Brandon), Cory Shamblin (Jessica), Bruce Tucker (Kensey) and James Tucker (Michelle); 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; family friend Gail Williams and her family; caregiver Hazel Holly; as well as her faithful companion and friend, Rocky.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Shamblin’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Point Enterprise Memorial Fund.
