Notie Lavina Pope Watson, 80, of Malone passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Wade Funeral Chapel with Mr. Windell Wren officiating. Interment followed in Cottonwood Cemetery where she was laid to rest beside her late husband, J.M. “Dock” Watson.
Notie was born February 2, 1945, in Malone to Charlie Edward and Notie Leona Howard Pope. She lived all her life in the Malone area and was a member of Malone Baptist Church.
Notie worked at Kreditor’s Sewing Factory in Hubbard before beginning a career working at the Mexia State School from where she retired after 22 years. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.
Notie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.M. “Dock” Watson; daughter, Sherry Denise “Niece” Kyle; son, Charles Wayne “Bubba” Kyle; daughter- in-law, Diana McClay; grandson, R.J. McClay; two brothers, Charles Ruben Pope and Howard Martin “Buddy” Pope; sister, Mary Ellen Pope and stepfather, J.D. Lucas.
Survivors include daughter, Mary Overbey and husband, ThomasofMalone;sonin- law, Raymond McClay of Belton; sister, Ila Mae Christian of Malone; sister-in-law, Paulette Pope of Bynum; five grandchildren, Joe and Tiffani Rendon of Robinson, Sherry Rendon and Mark Blalock of Malone; Jonathon Overbey and Sydney of Hewitt, Ariah McClay of Belton and Brianna McClay of Belton; nine great-grandchildren, Miranda Black, Preston Rendon, Chloe Blalock, Chase Blalock, Kash Rendon, Eli Melendez, Zayden Lozano, Ozzy Blalock and Josiah Rendon and many nieces and nephews as well as many cousins.
Pallbearers were Joe Rendon, Jonathon Overbey, Thomas Overbey, Preston Rendon, Chase Blalock and Mark Blalock.
Honorary pallbearers were Kash Rendon, Josiah Rendon, Ozzy Blalock, Eli Melendez and Zayden Lozano.
