Ruby Lee Roberson

Ruby Lee Roberson was born on Feb. 14, 1943, to the parentage of Clarence Sr. and Lorene Washington Roberson. She was from a large and loving family of 12 other siblings. Ruby was educated at the Belview  Baptist Church and later graduated from H.B. Pemberton High School of Marshall with the class of 1960.

At an early age, she accepted Christ and united with the Belview Baptist Church of Waskom. Ruby moved to Dallas at the request of her aunt, Annie Bell Mahone, so she could expound upon her awesome skills as a seamstress. She worked for a few months in the Dallas Fashion District Clothing Distribution Center but quickly learned that her skills were good enough to start her own business. Ruby stepped out on faith and did just that and for the next 50-plus years of life she was an entrepreneur in her own right. Ruby also had a passion for sports and she was very adamant about her football and baseball. The family knew when the game was on how to behave in her presence. “Please don’t disturb me while the game is on,” was the joke among the siblings. In the last 25 years, she fine-tuned her culinary skills and was always cooking something good for her family and friends.

Upon moving to Dallas, she united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and in the early 1980s moved her membership to the Deliverance Revival Tabernacle Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Jones. Ruby remained a faithful and dedicated member of the church, working with several organizations within the church and sharing her love for the Lord. She was also willing to serve as she demonstrated in the many dinners she served to not only her DRT church family but families within her community. She worked diligently until her health failed but she never stopped praying and witnessing for the kingdom.

Ruby is preceded in death by both parents, Clarence Sr. and Lorene Roberson; brothers, Harrell Wilson Sr., Clarence Roberson Jr., Joe Louis Roberson, Clyde Roberson Sr. and William Earl Roberson Sr.; two sisters, Shirley Ann Jenkins and Mary Pearl Collins.

She leaves to cherish her memories her only child, Angelina Smith Jones; and her only grandson, who was the love of her life, Avery L. Smith. Sharing in her remembrance are the remaining siblings, Thelma Sparks, Raymond (Patricia) Roberson, Jacqueline Manning and Crysandra Paris; sistersin-law, Barbara Roberson, Annie Pearl Roberson, Ruth Roberson, Donna Roberson; her son-in-law, Vince Jones, several nieces, nephews, true friends, Patricia Sheffield and Leon Durrough (father of Angelina) along with a host of other close family friends who loved her dearly.

Service for Ms. Roberson was held May 18 at Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church.  Services entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home of Mexia.
