Dear Heloise: With so many of us spending time indoors due to health concerns, we’re not getting enough vitamin D, and this is especially true for the elderly. Besides pills, what foods are rich in vitamin D that we can add to our diets? -- Adell D., Newport, R.I.

Don’t jump on the hot stove

The first time I ever heard the term, “best and brightest,” was about the cabinet that President Kennedy assembled in 1961. Lyndon Johnson, coming back from the first meeting, was in awe of their knowledge and described their brilliance to Sam Rayburn. Rayburn replied that he would be more comfortable if at least one of them had at least run for county sheriff. Subsequently, these same people buried us in Vietnam.

Dear Heloise: As with most parents, mine ingrained in me the need to brush my teeth regularly. In spite of doing this twice a day, I still ended up with cavities. My dentist always encouraged me to floss, but even after I started doing this, I still had cavities.
